The Mayo Medical Academy acts as a teaching facility for NUI Galway’s medical students and staff working between the existing Mayo University Hospital and the Nursing College in the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology.  The project comprises of converting the protected church into a mixture of open plan and enclosed teaching spaces with ancillary support areas.

New rooflights flood a double height entrance area allowing light deep into the interior of the church.  All the new elements including the first floor are all separated and read as modern independent elements in contrast with the original stone walls and timber roof structure.
