Official Opening Mayo University Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Unit

A new €1.4m day care centre for patients with Cystic Fibrosis was officially opened by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD, today, Friday 15th January at Mayo University Hospital. The new centre will, for the first time, provide dedicated facilities for all of the regular out-patient and day care needs of children and young people with CF in the greater Mayo area.

The new centre includes consulting rooms with a state of the art air filtration system that will significantly reduce the risk of cross infection, which is a major challenge in all Cystic Fibrosis centres. The unit also contains treatment rooms, educational lab and administration facilities and a dedicated entrance and waiting area to further separate CF patients from other hospital visitors and staff.
