Mayo County Council invited Taylor McCarney Architects to present proposals for the refurbishment of the former Military Barracks site in Castlebar. The large urban site is unoccupied for a number of years and separated from the town by its elevated position and the high walls surrounding it.

As part of the exploration into the site and its history Taylor McCarney Architects engaged with the local secondary school transition year students from St. Gerald’s College to get their opinions as the future generation. Working alongside their teacher as part of an Architects in Schools programme, Taylor McCarney Architects helped the students develop their ideas and concepts for the site. The result of this programme will be exhibited alongside the proposals by Taylor McCarney Architects over the coming weeks starting on the 29^th April 2016.
